2011 Teen Summit!

The Massachusetts Library Association joins the Massachusetts Library System to present the third annual Teen Summit!.

Librarians who work with teens will want to attend this full day, intensive program focusing on their needs and partially planned by their peers!  We also will welcome author Mitali Perkins as our Keynote Speaker and will feature a panel on the State of YA Publishing.  Breakaway sessions will focus on a variety of topics including Nontraditional  Approaches to Teen Services, Community Collaborations, Readers Advisory for Beginners and Grants for Teen Services.

 

Keynote Speaker

We welcome author Mitali Perkins as our Keynote Speaker and will feature a panel on the State of YA Publishing.

 

Registration Fees:

In order to cover the costs of this event there is a modest charge for the 2011 Teen Summit.

If you register before April 11th the registration rates are:

$37 - Members of the Massachusetts Library Association and Massachusetts Library System.
$50 - Non Members

Walk-in registration rates are:

$50 - Members of the Massachusetts Library Association and Massachusetts Library System.
$65 - Non Members

New Approaches to Reader's Advisory

We've all seen--and used--the readers' advisory tomes, but is that really the most effective way to connect teens with books they'll love? Learn some new ways to know your teens and what they want without being pushy, how to keep a 30-second booktalk in your pocket, the RA interview, appeal characteristics, and how to offer quality RA services even when you're not there.

and Alissa Lauzon, Haverhill Public Library

Teen Grants

Lots of opportunities to get grants to help you provide the best teen services possible. From Serving Teens and Tweens to the local cultural council, the panel will talk about their experiences and successes with writing and managing a grant.
