This sector makes you dream with the attractive gains it promises. Some also go for exaltation… In any case, the stock market and traders have always fascinated and inspired films, some of which have become cult. Here are three essential film productions that evoke this universe: “In search of happiness”, “Wall Street: money never sleeps” and “The Wall Street Wolf”.

“In search of happiness”

This American film was released on January 31, 2007. Directed by Gabriele Muccino, it features actors Will Smith and his son Jaden Smith, but also Thandie Newton.

Chris Gardner, played by Will Smith, is a sales representative who is struggling to make ends meet. He is doing his best to succeed, but his wife is beginning to lose interest in their financial instability. She finally decided to abandon her husband and son Christopher, who was barely 5 years old.

Chris starts looking for work, but without success, when he has to take care of his son. As time went by, he managed to obtain an internship in a famous brokerage firm. He is fully committed, even if he is not (yet) paid. In need of money, he can no longer pay his rent and he and his son find themselves on the street. Every day that passes, the father and son struggle to find a place to sleep. With any luck, they may have room in homes.

Nevertheless, Chris continues to have hope, thanks in particular to his son’s love and his internship, thanks to which he could soon become a trader.

“Wall Street: Money never sleeps”

This film directed by Oliver Stone was released on September 29, 2010. The main actors in this American drama are Michael Douglas, Shia LaBeaouf and Josh Brolin.

The film takes place on Wall Street, New York, during the financial crisis of 2008. Jacob Moore, a young trader, wants to avenge his consultant, who killed himself because of various fraudulent financial transactions. He then sought advice from Gordon Gekko, a finance master who had just been released from prison for insider trading.

Over time, Jacob will realize for himself that Gordon will always remain a great manipulator and that money never sleeps.

“The Wall Street Wolf”

Released on December 25, 2013, this American film directed by Martin Scorsese is an excellent feature film reflecting the life of a trader. He puts Leonardo DiCaprio, Jonah Hill and Margot Robbie first.

The story takes place in the early 1990s. Jordan Belfort, a Wall Street trader, is getting rich at an impressive rate. At only 30 years old, he seems to have discovered the secret to making money very quickly. He literally falls in love with greenbacks and gradually falls into the big trap of easy money. With all this wealth, he accumulates beautiful girls, drugs and fiesta. He multiplies the crazy expenses and even buys Coco Chanel’s yacht. With his various high profile activities, he was noticed by the FBI. Accompanied by his loyal accomplice, he tries to keep a low profile so as not to get caught.
